My mushrooms are growing tiny and thin...how do I make them fatter?
    #4102697 - 04/27/05 12:54 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

See...

This was last night, I'll post some updated pictures in a few moments. Substrate is a bulk mix (h/poo mainly with some castings, coir, verm, rye grass seed, rye, and WBS).

What strain?
Some strains make tiny pins.

It is an austrailian strain.

You know Scat. I'm going through a similar type of thing now with the OI strain. The casings are straw/poo/coir/coffee w/lime. The first flush had very thin mushrooms. But the next flushes are working out so much better. It might be one of them strains. or the mixture might be a little on the sweet side as far as PH is concerned. My first flush casings PH was 7.3 on most of them. Now the PH is right and everything is panning out much better.

Here's that casing I was talking about Scat. Now it's doing much better on the next flush. Pretty thin fruits for an OI casing if you ask me.

And are you sure these aren't Panaelous cyanescens?  Congrats in advance if that's what this mystery thread is about  :mushroom2:

Its about 1 3/4-2 inches, with about 1/4" (maybe a little less, very thin) casing layer (peat/verm).

thicker casing layer = longer pinning times = bigger shrooms.

Scat, unless Diver is right......

I had a problem with one of my Double Tubs growing much smaller fruits than any of my other tubs...

Every variable was the same: same substrate, spawn ratio, air exchange, as the other tubs.

The only difference was that the depth of the substrate was.....let me check my notes...... aprox 2 inches deep with a half inch coir/verm casing.

The looked similar to yours while they were growing up.  I was worried about them the whole time and sure enough they came in very small, compared to other tubs with thicker sub.

Just a thought....Good luck bro.

That's the same problem I had with a GT casing. My substrate
depth was about 1.25", and my tallest fruits were 4"...Lesson learned for me.

My substrate depths are usually 1.5-3 inches thick...sometimes thicker, sometimes thinner...usually right around 2 inches though.
