has anyone had any experience with the prescription drug called "abilify" or "effexor"?

abillify is new to me, and i was wondering about input.

I had a one-week experience with Effexor. Over time I was non-responsive to Celexa, then I was prescribed Lexapro and almost had a heart attack.

Effexor is a REAL fucked up drug. You can feel the pills fuckin with your head/thoughts, its no good.

Abilify----ya they tried to feed me that along with risperdal. I believe its an anti-psychoitic...a step above celexa and effexor to my knowledge. Abilfy is the brand name right? wats the generic?

"abilify" is the brand name for a drug called aripiprazole. Aripiprazole is the newest anitpsychotic on the market. It has a unique mechanism of action and is the first of what may tentatively be called "third generation" antipsychotics. Since it's only been on the market a few years how "good" it is (relative to older antipsychotics) remains to be seen.

Celexa (citalopram)is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and used mainly in depression.

Effexor (Venlafaxine) is another antidepressant that works by increasing levels of BOTH norepinephrine and serotonin.

I've tried Effexor twice. Made me feel kina spacey almost like your trippin, but it never really helped me.

My recently vacated roommate was put on abilify for bipolar disorder.

She experienced EXTREME sleepiness and general irritability. I couldn't go out in my living room without seeing her passed out on my futon.

I'm on effexor now (225 mgs) and have been the past 3 years. It is absolutely wonderful. The main problem is when I miss a dose (or two or three) I get the weirdest fucking "head shocks," and I go completely insane.

Is there anything specific you want to know about it?

anything and everything!! describe your experience with it if you can.... the information you guys have given me here has already been wonderful...

im just really nervous about taking these pills, but at the same time, i know it may be benaficial to be taking them...

thanks for the input everyone...

my first doctor appointment is May 24, and theyre already dead set on giving me these...

but i do have the final say.

it is possible for me to get a valium or xanex script, but then i have the fear of developing an addiction to those.

peace and love shroomerites, and thanks

SSRI's MAOI;s and antipsychotics can result in an addiction as well, the main difference is that benzos have recreational potential which is why more people are pulled in by xanax and valium. Ive heard withdrawls on the other stuff is pretty bad though especially considering SSRIs Maois etc are prescribed daily to aquire its necessary effect. Benzos are only taken "as needed" and are fast acting so you can gauge when you need to take a script or not. I dont know why they would offer xanax though, GABA is very different from the receptors Celexa and Effexor interact with.

Why do you think you might want to ingest "Effexor"?

I'm on 45mg of abilify a day, along with 2000mg Depakote ER.

abilify works well considering you don't feel drugged all the time. I was on halperidol for a while, and then seroquel. Seroquel put me in the hospital cause the doctor had me on 1600mg a day. Put me into violent seizures after a few days. I was unconscious for a few days. They put a catheter in me too. Good times....

abilify is much better.
