all of the hype i have heard about z strain has driven me crazy. decided to give it a shot. spent some cash and invested some time to no avial. Luckily i dealt with a reputable source and they will rectify the problem. Unfortunately i'm leary about getting two more z strain syringes.
THC keeps there syringes in a fridge. They told me the syringes may be dated... I thought syringes were viable for a long time esp. if kept in a fridge.

How are you certain they are duds? Can you explain the process that lead you to be certain of this?

Yea, but not forever. You may want to get your syringes somewhere else. I mean you wouldnt wont an old syringe, that would just not be good. Try this spore bank, www.spores101.com, they are fast (2 days and you have your order), reliable, and they have hundreds of different strains, inculding Z.

if the problem isn't your substrate...and your 100% sure the syringes were duds.
I'd suggest getting them replaced...by the Vendor.
which Vendor did you get them from?
how old were they?

purchased from the toronto hemp co in toronto. I cant say how old they are the syringes were marked "Z" but not identified by date.
This is how i prepared my my jars. first attempt. rye and wbs mixed at 3:1. rye grain and wbs saoked for 30 hours. rye grain simmered till kernals started to pop. grains were mixed and spooned into jars. pc'ed for 90 min. left to cool overnight and innoc with .5cc for a 500ml jar. 2 jars were done with just soaked wbs and then pc'ed for the same time. jars lids have hole and covered with filter fabric. covered with aluminum foil. Incubated at 82 to 86F for just shy of three weeks now. At two weeks i added some water to half the jars I thought the grains might be a bit dry. i ended up with a few contams in the jars i added water to but no grwoth in any others.
2nd attempt 2nd syringe Prepared grains and jars as above but only used rye. I've never used wbs with rye and thought if it wasnt the moisture content it had to be the wbs. So far no contams Yippee but no growth either CRAP!!!
Other than when i was just starting out i've always had good success so i'm confident it's the spores or lack there of.

How much is 500ml? If its about the size of a quart jar, then I'd say .5cc of spore solution is a little on the low side, which could account for some of the delay... Unless your syringes are black with spores... GL bro

could be the grains are too dry...you'll have to be the judge on that.

.5cc per pint is all I use sometimes, never caused an issue. Usualy best to just use 1cc though (no matter the size jar) to get the better strain. Doesnt really have much to do with speed of colonization cause once it starts it goes good, but to get a nice quick mycelium to dominate, you want to use more spores. Throughout the process, you'll end up with quicker, bigger, better.

thanks scat for the advice now and before. Unfortunately i think the spores were bunk. Cant get to the vender for 1 1/2 weeks so i started a liquid culture the other night from a print i made to kill some bordom. Was really looking forward to seeing the "Z's" though.
