$3.7 million drugs found in tortilla chips

Two arrested in Thomasville, N.C., lead to $3.7 million drug bust
April 26, 2005
Police believe Georgia company was front for running drugs

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After finding millions of dollars worth of drugs packed into tortilla chip boxes, police say they believe the owner of Rio Foods Distribution was using his business as a cover for drug trafficking.

Juan David Cardona Ruiz, 21, and Jose Martin Perales, the 42-year-old owner of Rio, were arrested in Thomasville, N.C. on Friday after police received a tip that a large delivery of marijuana was arriving at a home there, said Thomasville police Capt. Ronnie Phillips.

While police were staking out the home, Perales and Ruiz arrived, Phillips said. Police found 85 pounds of marijuana upon searching their vehicle and a subsequent search of Ruiz's girlfriend's apartment yielded another 173 pounds of the drug, Phillips said. Police estimate the marijuana is worth about $400,000.

Thomasville police called the Gwinnett County Drug Task Force, which took a drug dog to Perales' distribution warehouse in Lawrenceville. There, police found 795 pounds of marijuana and more than 2 pounds of methamphetamine in the tortilla chip boxes, said Gwinnett County police Maj. Bart Hulsey. Gwinnett police estimate the drugs are worth $3.7 million.

Police said they believe Perales was using his company, located about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta, as a front for a drug operation. Drug-trafficking charges are pending against Perales in Gwinnett County.

<<after police received a tip>>

who the fuck keeps opening their god damn mouth? i'm so sick of seeing police bust people because of these "tips". cops are useless and worthless without people snitching on each other to help them bust someone.

<<Another dealer gone down.. Another sad day.. >>

yes a very sad day..even sadder is our own government could be controlling and regulating these substances but their stubborn attitude is causing them to lose billions of dollars in profit a year from this market, as well as flood our prisons with innocent citizens
