Morning glory sprouts ~5 days.

Check it out! These are 2 out of 18 morning glory sprouts I have going. I'm going to pull all but one in each of six places I put seeds. Has anyone grown Heavenly Blue's before? I hope to collect lots of seeds, does anyone know how many you get from an average plant? I will be posting new pics as they grow.
Peace.

Yep, that's a morning glory sprout alright. I like growing morning glories myself, I wouldn't call them boring. They're very simple and require basically no effort, but they have beautiful flowers.

you get at the most four seeds in a pod, but you can get less. Usually either two or four, but I believe I've seen one and three.

Only two or three huh? That hardly seems worth it, unless you were to plant a field of these things and hire people to pick the seed pods. Can anyone give me an estimate of how many seed pods I might collect from six plants over this summer and fall? Dissappointing news .
Oh, and in response to Letto, I just threw them in some poor quality soil from a trench in my yard (doesnt drain well, was like clay before I broke it up) mixed 3/1 with some kind of multch (sp?) which should help it drain better. I heard they would grow in anything so I figured I'd test that. I'm sure yours will loooove that topsoil. Cheers.

I have 16 heavenly blue morning glories, 3 weeks old. I'll take pictures soon! It's really not a boring plant, the flowers are magnificent and it's seeds a gift.

hey dudes, i got several types of MG growing but only 1 of em has cotyledons like the ones above... the others have shorter and rounder cotyledons... also the seeds from those were not angular but rather looked alot like rivea seeds... but the baggie clearly said MG, heavenly bue... any1 know what the difference might be?

Thanks for the info! That would make this whole endeavor that much more worthwhile, hell if each plant gives me 100 seeds I'd be very happy. I'm going to order up 5lbs of seed and extract, but I still like the idea of growing these, and using their seeds. Seems more personal/meaningful. They sure do grow like weeds.... the leaves are twice as long as they were in my first post.

That's actually a pretty conservative estimate I'd say, unless they're really small plants. From larger plants I've collected probably more than a thousand in the past.

1000/plant?!? That would be excellent. It looks like there will be 5 plants growing, thus 5000 seeds = many homegrown trips. I suppose we'll have to see, once the next set of leaves start I'll update with pics. Gl with your gardens everyone!
