active or no?
    #4099477 - 04/26/05 05:14 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

I found these earlier today while hunting. I found them on a rotten tree in Louisiana. The are VERY fresh, still wet. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if they are active or not and when should i eat them? should i let the dry or eat them tonight?
Thank You.

those gills look extremely white to me, man

the caps look nothing like cubes IMO, the gills definitely aren't cubes, there's no veil or bruising

they aren't active, toss them. eating them will be a mistake you AND you friend will regret

i know a guy from LA who eats cubes he picks straight outta cowpies. look a little harder, woods and decaying trees are definitely not where you wanna loook to trip, especially not down south.

sometimes you can't see the cowpie, but the shit is gotta be pretty old shit. steaming pies definitly won't have fruits. i think it takes 2 weeks(i can stand corrected on that) for fruits to appear on cowshit

edit: also, some people claim to find cubes year round(i've found them at odd times here), its not quite season in alot of areas. give it a few weeks

no they're not "active".
and no you should definately not eat them.

im not certain what kind of mushrooms those are.

start the identification process by taking a spore print.

or

toss them in the garbage.

Those appear to be Pluteus cervinus, though it is possible that you have a mixed collection.

As the others have said they are not active.
