Problems with Casing contam

Hey hey. AFOAF knows his stuff but somehow always gets casing contam problems before they get colonized, usually cobweb mold. My buddy always uses a 60/40 verm/coir mix and uses a bit of hydrated lime to get the ph up. He prepares them in a room after he has sprayed it with lysol, then covers them with tin foil for at least 4 days before opening, usually within the 4 days the cobweb has taken over. Whats he doing wrong? He even uses 3% h202 solutions sometimes to help kill spores. Is there some secret to not getting cobweb? Could it be his house or should be pasteurizing his casing mix instead of sterilizing it? He is thinking about just going to larger scale bulk grows so that the mycelium can take over the casing layer more quickly and be more contam resistant...

sounds like a sterilization issue. is he pressure cooking the casing? or atleast microwaving it? I microwave mine until the core temp is around 300F and then i make sure it keeps around that temp for around an hour. Never had a casing contaiminate before using that method.
Is the prep room big? Small bathrooms work great.
The coir is psuedo nutrious and that may be where the cobweb is getting hold.
I would recomend a 50/50 Peat/Verm some lime. Also called the 50/50+tek.

Verm/Coir mix should not need any ph adjustment? Cobweb is most often a sign of stagnate gas/air & not enough fresh air exchange.

Ok. I can do more air exchange, but isn't it good to leave your casing covered for a few days before fanning it after you make it? and also is verm/coir more contaminant prone than 50/50+ mix? I was just microwaving my casing layer rather than pcing it or microwaving it for an hour or anything. Next time I guess i'll microwave the shit out of it.

probly wasnt a sterilized casing. it takes my microwave 4 cylces of 1 minute on amd one off. i use a meat thermometer to monitor core temp. just make sure you hit the 250 mark for awile
