control humidity with saltwater

This is just a thought......but have any of u thought about using saltwater for humidification of casings....first of all it would be possible to control the RH (relative humidity),if one hold the temperature constant,by controlling osmolality of the water (nacl concentration)...and it would help prevent bacterial builtup....except for the halophile bacteria(saltloving)but they will probably cause no threat to your casings since the casing does not contain any salt.

I have this from Raolt?s law which states "That the vaporpressure over perfect solutions is proportional to the mole fraction of the solvent". For water and ideal solutes such as nacl this can be written as follows which allows the calculation of the relative humidity :
RH(%)=(55.508/55.508+osm)*100 ,where osm is the osmolality.

Are you saying that nacl concentration directly affects water's ability to evaporate and raise RH? If so, that's a great idea. You don't mean for misting purposes but to sit in a container within the fruiting chamber correct? Saltwater would be much better than plain standing tapwater..

"Are you saying that nacl concentration directly affects water's ability to evaporate and raise RH?"

no its decreasing the rate of evaporation....that's why I suggest it for casing since they thrive in lower humidity....for instance if u add 84.5 g of nacl to one liter u get a RH at 95.31 (cant remember what the temperature should be)

and yes it should only be the water in the fruiting tank that has added salt.

How does this work? I did a search on google and found that the RH is 95% on normal sea salinity and 75% at higher concentrations. Seems a good addition even to TIT bain marie type set-ups, I don't like the smell of bleach and H2O2 is expensive and degrades
