Fruiting on Rye
    #4097378 - 04/25/05 09:49 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

I will be using a mycobag from mycobag.com and it will the rye based bag. I plan to use this from the moment of inoculation until I harvest my shroomies.
What strain will work best for this substrate? I am assuming a Cubie, because they are hardy and do well on rye, but what kind of cubie? I have a tight budget, so I will be buying from SporesDirect. So, on the SporesDirect site, what do you think is best for my conditions?

As far as I know, any cubensis will grow good on rye.

I used it for a while before switching to wild bird seed.

HO-LY SHIT. YOUR SIGNATURE IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!!! But aside from that.....Yea. So, thanks you guys. I don't know much about this stuff. How well will it do if I am using a mycobag like I said and leave it in my garage? By this I mean that I will not have high humidity :frown:. how badly will this affect my crop? What can I do to increase humidity?

Well if your gonna initiate pinning in the mycobag humidity will build up in their, so the garage is no issue.
On the otherhand the garage (depends on where you live) may be too gold, and colonisation will take ages!

If I where you id read the faq about invitro pinning and search the growlogs for "myocbag" and "invitro"

Invitro? No idea what that is. And I know that I look stupid for asking, but I have been wondering all day, what is pinning?

See this thread. AFAIK invitro in this sense is generally accepted to mean fruiting within the same container used for incubation. Pinning is the first sign that the shrooms are starting to grow out from the mycelial base, as you can see in the pics in that thread.

Wow, you guys use way too many acronyms, it scares me. I don't need a special post dedicated to this one, because it is probably not that important, but would the next poster please tell me what AFAIK means?

Which seems to give the largest output in terms of Ps? I mean, if you factor in the potency of the strain, and the average harvest, which gives more Ps to you in the end?

AFAIK = As far as I know.

As for which strain is better, correct me If I'm wrong Magash, but I'd say the difference is probably minimal and it's hard to give a proper objective assessment. If you are doing multi-spore innoculations (i.e. from a spore print) there will be variation every time.

Wow, if I had just bought a strain and a bag online without your guy's help, who knows what would happen? If this is a success, I have all of you to thank. Thanks in advance people!
