i was googling this subject last night and found a few sites that hinted to the notion that morels grow in Virginia, but I've yet to see any remotely in-depth discussion of it. all these threads about them with beautiful photographs and the promise of a tasty reward are enough to make me VERY interested in hunting for them.
i hope this isn't against the rules to ask, but since i've already googled it, i was hoping some of you might have a bit more knowledge than the online archives about it. has anyone ever found morels growing in the southwestern/south-central part of Virginia?
I'm in the New River Valley area and the temperature is a bit chilly lately, but as soon as it warms up a bit I'm going to start my hunting.. I've never eaten a morel, so I'm excited about the possibility.
if you look in this general region of va i can assure you finding of morels. i had found morels there myself. and also through out the smokey mtns. good luck and happy hunting. try mt rodgers state park. they have highland meadows area and i have also found them there while hiking.
