Hydrating coir casing with h202
    #4094893 - 04/25/05 01:32 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Anyone ever hydrate their casing layer with 3% or less h202 solution instead of using water? Might help with contams, but might slow down the mycelium. The idea just occurred to me, let me know if you have ever done that.

Do you sterilize your casing mix after you make it? If so then it would break down. If not, using probably 20% h202 (the 3% kind) when you make it up right before applying it might help a little and wouldnt hurt anything. I dont see it as being much of a contam fighter, but a little I guess...still would be better to just PC the casing mix

Yeah i used to sterilize my casing mixtures, but i think i'll be going with pasteurization for my next grow. So anyone try this?

Even pasteurization would break down h202. Many people do it, but I'd just rather sterilize. Not a problem sterilizing..

i never did anything with my casings. i just used all vermiculite. directly from the bag. and mixed in lots of h2o2 with my water
and i never had a contaminate problem. just a lil green mold after 2 or 3 flushes. never bigger than a dime. and always on the surface.

The green mold showing on the surface is the spores being released. You can bet that mold is growing inside your casings...

Ooooh... So you did use h202 and it didn't slow the mycelium down too much. Maybe next time i'll try a real dilute solution for starters, like 1.5% or something.
