To patch or not to patch, that is the question.... PIC
    #4091694 - 04/24/05 01:47 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

This post is regarding the casing I currently have as the focus in a growlog (see my sig.). As a recap, it is PR strain, 1qt rye spawned to horse shit, cased with 50/50 peat/verm adjusted to 7.4 pH by use of eggshells. My previous experience w/ PR has been that it'll colonize anything and everything before it fruits, but this was when casing w/ coir not peat. Currently there are rhizos pokin up everywhere. Because of the even colonization of the casing layer, I'm reluctant to patch the entire thing, especially knowing the nature of the strain. Should I patch this, or let it fruit out:

Looks like you answered your own question. That's one of the best looking casings I've ever seen on this forum.

I would not patch it. Looks ready for the fruiting chamber, to me.

Well if it was to stay exactly how it is now, I would agree with you.  However, I don't want 100% colonization of my casing layer.  PR will completely colonize a coir casing, but I've never cased it w/ peat, which is less nutritious.  I'm afraid the colonization will continue until 100% colonized, and I don't want that.  If anyone has experience w/ extremely aggressive strains, using coir as well as peat for casing, I'd like to hear your experience as far as difference of colonization of the casing layer between coir and peat.  Does that make sense???  BTW, this is day 4 in the fruiting chamber   Thanx guys :stoned:

I'm updating with pics and observations everyday in my growlog   Hopefully I'll see a shitload of knots in the near future

It aint coir....trust me...I just switched myself. You have to watch coir much more carfully...peat though will stop after you fruit it. Looks PERFECT right now, definatly no need for patching IMO.
