kicking a nodding horse
    #4093357 - 04/24/05 11:58 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

im so worried about my babies. about 6 days ago i got all excited and sewed all my best poppy seeds outside. the first night it snowed. then melted by noon the next night i got a hose and nozzle with shower mode and gave the garden a good drink then it goes and gets cold and the whole garden frosts over. like it went from mud to solid. i could punch a clearly defined hole in it.
then we have had a few warm nights, and tonight its been raining gently, and is about 15c  its supposed to rain another 30-45 mm over the next 24 hours.
theres been no germination yet that i can see.
seedlings can resist the frost but i cant find ANY info on seeds.  and seedlings do not like alot of rain. but once again how will seeds handle it?
i went out with a magnifing glass and found seeds.  they diddnt look damaged or close to opening.
i can always re-plant for the year but the ones i planted were beautiful strains and i really want them to come up.  plus i paid alot for them. :frown:

some sights say sew after last frost, others say sew just before last frost.
if the latter is true then i definately sewed before last frost.  here im all nervous about weather they will make it.
its not helping any either. considering im gardening to take the edge off the worry of weather or not my daughter will survive her surgery in a week.  i can't beleive its only a week.  so the prospect of my garden dying isnt helping me deal with my daughters upcomming heart surgery.
can anyone provide me with some advice on freezing poppy seeds? any experiences?  i know i already asked but i would really appriciate dome definate answers, i guess im just sick of being so unsure about evrything.

And yes seeds can handle freezing. Infact its believed to trigger germination, iv heard that Alot of people just plant in the fall and let nature take her course.

I wish your daughter the best.

I would deffinately imagine the seeds could handle more then the seedlings could.
