Bacterial Blotch
    #4093208 - 04/24/05 09:11 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

Today I had to toss a shroom because it had bacterial blotch. I was inspecting my growing chamber and I saw a few very small insects on one of my cakes. Now I am concerned about my growing conditions.

I created a poor mans pod: http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/25056 and the humidity has seemed to be very high. As a result, I have had a lot of mycellium growth at the base of my shrooms. I have loosened the lid of the pod to lower the humidity.

What else can I do to help my growing conditions? Is there something I should spray the inside of the pod with? Is there something I should spray the cakes with? I am especially concerned with preventing more bacterial blotch from occuring.

What kind of basic sterilization methods are there for the growing chamber?

More fanning and perhaps misting with a 1:10 H2O2 dilution might help. If the blotch is only a minor infection, you don't usually need to toss them, just dry them and they're good to go. Post some pics if you can so we can see the degree of infection.

The shroom that was infected was tossed down the drain this morning. I currently do not have any other infected shrooms, but I do have some really misformed ones. I do not own a digital camera, but I will try to borrow one so I can get some pictures posted of these various problems I am having.

One of the cakes that I dunked after birthing has an odd brown spot on it as well. I cannot tell if this is just from dunking or if it is an infection of some tkind. I isolated the cakse and will see what happens.

Sadly, I have had more problems with this pod than I had from the standard perlite at the bottom of a rubbermaid container. I kind of wich I hadn't spent $60 to build it!
