How susceptible is bulk horse poo to contams?
    #4093113 - 04/24/05 10:51 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I spawned an EQ casing done with it's second flush to a container about (13"W X 7"L X 4.5"H) with composted horse poo pasteurized for one hour at around 165F. The container with spawn added had only about 1/2" of space left at the top.

It was fitted with two layers of saran wrap, then masking tape was used to hold the wrap in place due to it having a hard time sticking.

Holes were placed in a few spots of the saran wrap.

It has been incubating at 82F for the past couple of days and is already about 25% colonized with heavy rhyzomorphic growth.

I realized that condensation was building up heavily on the saran wrap and that droplets were falling onto the poo. I thought this was dangerous, so I sprayed the room with antibacterial, quickly took off the wrap and replaced it with one layer of wrap, then poked a few holes in it.. the poo was then placed back into the incubator.

Is horse poo quite resistant to contams after its been pasteurized and spawned?

Very much so in my experience. Don't worry much about the water droplets of water on your sub, I just let them go. It will be soaked up by your casing and shouldn't pose a problem.
