Weird Ass Obscure Question - Please Help Anyways
    #4092571 - 04/24/05 08:19 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Hey I recently got my brother's old Gateway laptop which he let me have just 'cus he's nice I suppose. Anyways, the issue I'm having is, like for instance right now as I'm typing this, the typing cursor moves back several spaces or sometimes several words while I'm typing, or will highlight random words and I'll start typing over them, making it virtually impossible to do any decent typing on this machine. I've had this same experience before on a Vaio but just reformatted and it went away, I really don't want to reformat  :thumbdown: so I was wondering if there was anyone out there who knew anything about this or has had this issue before or know's how to fix it. Thanks for any help in advance. Peace.

Maybe you don't need to reformat, a windows reinstall might be enough.

this one is so obvious that it hurts to say it but I have to ask anyways;

most laptops have a touchpad just below the space bar. You wouldn't happen to be lightly touching this with your wrists or sleeves while typing, would you? if not, I would still suspect this device. see if you can pop the case and clean it out good. it really sounds like a dirty piece of hardware.

Yeah, I actually realized after I posted this that this is what was going on. But on my Vaio that I had previously it had a center finger pointer device and I still had the same issue, so I really didn't even consider that at first. But thanks for the help! Peaceee
