vermiculite, coarse or fine, and light question

DOes it matter weather the vermiculite is coarse or fine. I got fine today, just for normal PF cakes. Also, when I will place my cakes in a fruiting chamber, I will have it my closet and the only light I have that will work is a flouresnt light, tube kind, little bit more thick than an aquarium one. How close to the chamber and in your opionion, how much light a day. Cause I should stay away from sunlight, right.

coarse and fine both work.
close enough to provide enought light--a few feet to a few inches.
12 on, 12 off will work just fine.
