infected substrate
    #4091537 - 04/24/05 02:41 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

ive been growing mycelium on a grain based substrate. one day while inspecting growth i noticed a small rip in the bag i was growing it in. i quicky taped it up :\ later i found a dark blue maybe black mold on various spots on the mycelium >:o. the grain had been 99% colonized so i put out to fruit anyway just to see what happened. i went out of town for a few days and came back only to find about 20 or more mushrooms and pins growing on the mycelium even with the mold. Ive heard that some black mold is deadly...

are they unsafe to use becasue of mold(im guessing they are bad)?

would their be anyway to use them..?..teas? extracts?

should i just throw it out ASAP

Bluing indicates bruising. This is green mold and these are unsafe to eat..

In this picture you can see black mold and green mold but ONLY in the bottom right hand corner...the rest of the mycelium has blue bruising all over it though..

Anyone looking to start bulk tubs/mono tubs/shotgun hybrids? Good tubs to use..
How I do grain (old still good tips)
Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber
Casing layer colonization and overlay

I think I've posted once before about saving a spoiled jar. Get a mix of 70% water/ 30% h202. Soak your myc in there for 6 hours, then case... green is gone.
