a while back...

A while back i tried growing but my cakes got put into a room that was way to hot (they were invitro). a couple were fully colonized well we waited about 2-3 weeks longer and nothing. We decided to just do a cranberry juice extraction of the mycelium, when we cut the cake open into little chunks they didn't have hardly any mycelium inside them. Some even had none but looked fully colonized. What caused this could the substrate have been packed to tight? Or what?

bacteria.. was the brown rice darker than normal and did it smell like socks or something?
lack of air.. did u have some air gettin in there?

it smelled like mushrooms and the holes weren't taped just aluminum foil. and puscle how can i prevent dry substrate? or was it caused by the heat?

sounds like they were dry. I had this problem my first time. Try a slightly wetter substrate. they produce heat when they colonize so if they were kept to hot, the center would be hoter than the sides and kill the mycellium in the center.

not sure thou just a quess.
