Biology Question
    #4081068 - 04/21/05 12:04 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

Not the average question wasn't even sure what forum it belonged in but i searched the net and couldn't find any relevant information relating to how and orgasm works.

By 'how' i mean what is the process in the brain that occurs when you experience the climax of sex? Now bear with me - is it similar to an ecstacy like release of seratonin in the brain only breaks down (or metabolizes or whatever) within a few seconds (male)? Could the process be mimicked by a new drug which is more stable or slow release or whatever?

Thanks for any help or information. I tried to explain best i could.

I think its a big release of endorphins , chemicals that make you feel "good".

Thought I would add that what we know as an orgasm evolved to make sure we procreate , its a reward for possibly impregnating a female. Makes us come back for more so the species is insured a healthy population.

I don't think it's one chemical it's either a cascade of events envolving serveral nuerotransmitters and/or maybe a peptide. Considering that just to get horny you not only need testosterone but you also need sex hormone binding globulin TeBG.

With an orgasm there's the whole histamine release and prolactin surge... I'm gonna put my money on oddball short lived peptide.

I'm not sure if a protein or a polypeptide is envolved in the biochemical pathway of an orgasm.  I know that endorphines and stress has a lot to do with it.  stress builds and the breaking of that stress is then felt through an orgasm.

All I know is that I like it!!!  :tongue2:

Any compound containing two (or more) amino acids linked by the amino group of one to the carboxyl group of the other.

A peptide is a bond between molecules but most commonly associated with amino acids. if there's a chain of amino acids bonded by peptide bonds that's a polymer called a polypeptide. When it's functional it's called a protein

Narcotics.
endorphin = endogenous morphine
