Some Cascade morels
    #4088230 - 04/23/05 01:29 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Came over the pass yesterday, stopped at a few places, found a few morels (M. elata), lots of verpas and various other ascomycetes.  all that I found were very fresh, many were too small to bother picking. they're just barely starting to come up around 2000'-2200', but there's warm temps and rain in the forecast and I have a couple days off work this week , should be good...

this is the first one I saw, about 3/4" high, growing right in the middle of a trail

Verpa bohemica, LOTS of these around

Another Verpa hiding under a trillium, keep an eye out for both of them, true morels never seem to be far away...

Discina perlata, pigs ear

Very cool DH.

There's something magical about spring and ascomycetes.

Nice, I was out on white pass last week and didn't see much of anything. Which pass did you go over? I was thinking of looking near Ellensburg and further north but I would think that white pass should produce something very soon as well. Nice finds, I am not so 'demorelized' now.
