cryptoporus volvatus

There is still not much fruiting going on in my neck of the woods, but I did find these cryptoporus volvatus growing on rotting red pines, which I am posting for your edification. When I bought my digital camera, I bought the cheapest one so the focusing was kind of messed up. Better pictures of these characters are definitely possible.

And a top view:

I also found camellia japonica.

BTW, any tips for focusing a 200 dollar Olympus digital camera? Would I have had better luck if I had focused on a leaf or sheet of paper, and then removed it?

If it features a manual focus option, put it on manual, focus all the way on the nearest end (as close to the camera as you can get), then keep moving the camera towards the object you want to shoot until it's in focus.

I found another dandy c. volvatus specimen, but didn't have my camera, so brought it home in my bag.
In the photo below, you can see small stipe on it.

BUT, I spread out my paper and camera on the table and started to photograph and all these little bark beetles started crawling out. (I already started learning about trees, but do I have to do bugs too?)Gross, if it's your kitchen.

You can see one in the spore duct, and one crawling around on top.
