sterile substrate?
    #4085877 - 04/22/05 07:33 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Ok. I made my substrate out of vermiculite, BRF, and water. I filled up 4 jars and steam-sterilized them in a pot for one hour. I put a towel under the jars as instructed in a tek somewhere. The towel got slightly burnt underneath the jars and make brown markings on the glass. Its hard to tell if it is on the inside( I dont think it is), but the stuff wont rub off at all. Just curious if maybe this happened to someone else or maybe just a helpful tip. I just dont want to waste my spores on a contaminated jar. (Is it ok to do it again and put some other rack?

Well, your jar wouldn't be contaminated in that amount of time. It must be some residue or mark from the towel burning.
