Anyone else encountered the "Egg film"? while crushing egg shells for buffer?
    #4085797 -

When recently makeing a casing and in prep. for that makeing crushed egg shells as a buffer, i encountered a thin film covering the inside of the egg. Im not sure if this is some embryotic sac or something but i decided to try and get rid of it by peeling it off.
This shit is really sticky and hard to get out of egg shells so what i did was put the egg shells in a blender with water, hit liquify then strain the solution it forms on top(crushed shells in the bottom of the blender), this pretty effectively got rid of this opaque film leaving me with nothing but fine sand like chunks of shell.

sorry if this sounds stupid, i thought i would just throw it out there if anyone encountered the same problem as i, since for some reason finding the proper lime for ph ballancing is a hard task, and everyone can get egg shells. Just my 2c

Yeah that membrane can be a hassle. I find it's easiest to shell them myself after making eggs for breakfast, etc. It seems to pull apart best when it's still goopy from being wet.

Crush your shells, boil them in a bit of water, drain, rinse, crush again. Voila.

Yea that membrane should be removed as you only want the shell itself.  What I do is throw the empty shells in the fridge over night, and then clean out the membrane the next morning under warm water.  Doing it this way, you can rub it with your thumb and be able to peel the entire membrane off in one piece...
