D.A.R.E. Slogan
    #408570 - 09/29/01 10:20 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

Spotted on a car today, something like, "No to drugs and violence."

I have never known anyone to be violent on MJ or pyschedelics, but here the propagandists link drugs and violence together as if one naturally follows the other. After all, who is for violence? (even though we are the most violent species on the planet).

Drug violence is predominately due to the enormous money incentive (as created by the people with a D.A.R.E. mindset) , and not the substance per se.

Good brainwashing is a very subtle process.

Most violent species on the planet? where did you get that? Just stick a few unnutured(sp) male cats(or dogs or any other terratorial animal) in a room and we'll see which species is more violent.

I've never known any other terratorial animal to willfully and systematically exterminate six million of its own species. Cats and dogs also seem somewhat reluctant to drop bombs on one another.

...and yes, linking drugs and violence is about as low a tactic as it gets. I guess the propagandists are clutching at straws now that the health risks have largely been discounted.

eh, how often do people beat each other to death? Just because another animal doesn't know how to use or make a bomb, doesn't make it less violent, just less intelligent. Animals very often kill off an entire community of other animals, the communities are just smaller. If you put a few teenagers in a room who don't know each other, chances are they will try to make friends with each other. Put a few young animals of any other species, chances are they will fight until one beats all the others into submission. Maybe they don't have the means to do such wide scale destruction as we do, but they are more willing to do it.

And i don't think the aim of it is to link drugs and violence... other then they are both undesirables. DARE is a program made to reduce gang activity, the most destructive features of gangs are the massive drug use and violence. Although they do focus mainly on the drug part.

The implication being that mindless, instinctual violence is worse than premeditated murder? I dunno...

Not all animal violence is "mindless and instinctual". In many species of animal a male will kill a litter of young that are not his own and even cannibalize them in order to ensure the dominance of his own genes over a competing males.

And some animals have been known to "hunt" merely for the pleasure of it, not taking animals to eat but just toying with and killing them for no logical reason.

And when animals fight over territory or mates or food (sometimes to the death) is it really any different than why we humans fight? Just because we have technology to wreak havoc on a larger scale doesn't make our intentions any different. All animals are capable of violence, and we are just part of the animal kingdom.

I find it hard to believe that any animal -- other than man -- is consciously thinking about ensuring the dominance of it's genes when it attacks another animal, but I guess that can't be proven one way or the other.

You are basically correct in saying that humans fight for the same reasons animals do, especially as far as territory goes...but is it unreasonable to expect more from us?

The weed has told me lies about what peoples intentions were towards me, but it kept me apathetic enough to do nothing but moan about it. Never got up and beat the crap outta someone on weed, despite losing my temper in a paranoid rage. Just couldn't be fucked.

its funny that alcohol is a substance that often makes people violent, yet it remains legal. (and taxed)
how many times do you here about someone toking up, and then going home to beat their spouse/kids?

the only reason why if you put a group of teens in a room they will try to become friends is because they have been trained to think that friendship is the best way but animals have not been trained in that manner except domesticated animals and they often fight less than people at a school would
