Strange things going on in fruiting chamber PICS
    #4085156 - 04/22/05 03:50 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Alright my last update was when a friend told me he spotted what he thought might have been green mold, he immediately got rid of it and heres what has occured. One thing that has been going on is theres severe myc growing on some of the mushrooms, someone told me this was fine. Some of the mushrooms have discolored heads that are light looking and are disformed and are drooping, what is wrong? Heres some pictures and that would be nice if someone could analyze them. Also excusethe pictures, the camera isn't that great and i'm not that great of an operator.

The chamber

Odd colors and shapes.

One fruit fell off and i'm not sure if its rotted or contaminated or whatever, it looked slightly miscolored and i chopped it up and inside it had turned dark.

The good side is, this cake is looking great overall.

your pictures are of pretty bad quality so it is hard to tell exactly what's going on but that looks like fuzzy mold growing on your caps. i'm not sure that they are safe to consume.

Do you have a "macro" setting on your camera?

nah i don't think so, it is a kodak digital, just your regular camera. i'll run throuhg all the settings one more time to make sure. i had a earlier model kodak of the same series that had a switch for close ups but i don't see it on this cam. =(

I don't think your cakes are contaminated at all, though they might become contaminated if you don't pick all of those aborts. I think your temps are too high, you haven't been fanning enough, too much misting, or a combination of the above. Pick off all of those nasty aborts, they could be infested with bacteria so just throw them away. Roll your cakes in sterilized vermiculite, and start the fruiting process all over. Fan more, mist a bit less. Did you continue to mist even after pinning set in? That's a big no no, and can result in massive aborts like you have. Don't get discouraged!!! Nothing is lost but a bit of time. If you start to see funny colored patches on your cakes, then its time to worry.

And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand. I ask them and they answer me. When I return from the trip that I have taken with them, I tell what they have told me and what they have shown me."

I think your right and my temps are too high, they have been sitting under the window sill and my friend told me the other day in stead of fanning them out he has been blowing into it!!!!!!!!!!!! what an idiot? well also i misted once a few weeks ago, maybe that did it and it was after pinning. so what should i do with the cake with the few fruits that are growing? some of the pins on that have there heads turned dark and the big floppy light colored one.

so it seems my paranoid ass just jumped the gun and my mushrooms aren't contaminated but rather all the shrooms just aborted except for the real big guys. i think the mistake comes from when i decided to spray my chamber once when the humidity is awfully high as it is since i notice some myc growth on the actual shrooms. ARGH! so now i'm wondering what to do. i picked all the aborts off the cake that is far ahead. as for the other cakes it looks like there is only one to two fresh looking fruits and theres tons of aborts. should i pick of the tons of aborts on the other cakes or wait a little longer for more progress, also there is alot and i don't want to pull off an abort that might be attatched to a good one. any ideas?

Most people recommend that aborts be picked as soon as they're recognized. Just be careful when picking them and you shouldn't do too much damage.
