i think i killed my pc
    #4083890 - 04/22/05 04:55 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I have been trying to reinstall xp on my pc, and
i finally started doing it tonight. I got about
halfway through the setup t when an error message came
up, and it comes up every time i start up my computer
now (both with the xp cd in and out of the computer).

the message reads exactly:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated
unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000012f (0x00000000
0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

Any idea what this means? it happens every time i
start up and i cant get past it, rendering my computer
useless.

any help is appreciated

Are you using a pirated copy of XP?

run fdisk and kill the windows partition(it should show up as a non-dos partition); then create it again during the install process (use NTFS and do a full format of the partition)

rather, is your BIOS boot order set to boot CDROM before HDD? You want to boot to the XP CD. From there you can repartition and format prior to install.

Its a memory issue.

Memory resides on your motherboard as RAM, on your hard disk as a CACHE, and on the processor as CACHE.

It's not the processor because you can still see the POST screen.

It may be the Hard Disk or the RAM.

Try using one stick of RAM at a time (if you have more than one).

If it's a DELL, hold down <CTRL + ALT + D> to run a built in diagnostic on the hard disk. Otherwise you'll need to obtain another disk to test with.

Note* Thats CONTROL, ALT and the letter "D", NOT control alt DELETE.

Yeah, i would test memory. Ive seen windows errors and blue screens(with a nice variety or errors) during install due to bad memory more then once. Get someone to burn a memtest86 disk for you and boot off of it.

Contact Microsoft. They should provide some support for you if the distribution you're installing is legitimate.
