I have had 5 half pint jars that have been incolnated 21 days ago. some of the jars are alomst completly colonized but not quite and others are nerly there. can i cold shock the ones that are almost there, there is very little of the cake less the a half inch in with from the top to the bottom of the jar. how can i speed up the growth of the mycelium? the incubator fluxuates from 82-86F, usually at about 84F.

i inoculated 6 jars 10 days ago and started seeing very rapid growth when i opened up the inoculation holes and turned the jars upside down at about day 4.

I took off the lids and replaced them with a coffee filter. Then I screwed the ring back on and turn them upside down. That definately speeded up the process.

Cold shocking woudnt speed up the growth it would if anything slow it down. Just keep them in those temps it takes time man. I actually dont really notice the difference between incubation temps. I usually just inject and shuv in my closet, works pretty well

And when your moisture (from inside the jar) condensates and drips down the dry verm. into the coffee filter.....

You're protection not only gets :doggystyle: , but you're coffee filter becomes a factory for contams...:nonono:

not really guys... the coffee filters all dry, more importantly when i birthed them the verm was all dry. IMO i think the dry verm provides more than enough protection from contams. I was using pint jars with about 3/4 inch of dry verm. I guess if you're cakes are too wet the verm would get wet too. I thought mine were too wet b/c there was condensation on the sides of the jars, but nope, the filters and verm were dry as bones.
