casing help....PICS inside.
    #4081896 - 04/21/05 05:56 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Hello friends, this is my first casing question post so i don't feel to bad, even though it seems every one posts questions when doing there first casing...

How does these look?  Stats, have been in fruiting chamber for 6 days.  Temp 74, humidity, mid 90's.  When i see pins i will drop this of course.  I will do a cold shock if you feel its time, i just was trying to avoid doing that step, i have read its not necessary most of the time.

The goddamn cambo is very aggressive, i don't want to get overlay.

I am a little hesitant about patching, i have read mixed things. Some people say it hurts your flush because the mycelium has to re-establish itself, and i have heard that it is good because it will give you a more even pin set.

All opinions are welcomed, only some will be followed....

Thanks.

Are those the 6 qt. sterilite 'shoeboxes'? hehe

You are looking great for the first time. I would just let em go this time and see how they do. You will see how they do in their 'natural' state hehe. Then you can make some tiny adjustments, i.e. patching, dunking, etc. the next round. You should have a pretty interesting next couple weeks as they grow hehe, good luck and keep us posted.

Looking good! The cambodian especially.

As for patching, I don't really think it is bad in any way though. I have patched every single casing I have ever done(about 25 or so), and it usually only takes a couple days for the mycelium to grow thru. Just my opinion anyway.

Good luck to ya and keep us posted.

Reading other posts from some of the more experienced members I have learned one thing about pinning, it takes 9-12 days from the day you place inside the fruiting chamber.

I am currently on day 10 with my casings and I just saw a pin this morning. 6 days is too short a time frame to be worried.

Yes they are...i duct taped and foiled the bottom so i dont have to worry about light making bottom and side pins.

I should add, this is about a 60/40 or 70/30 verm/coir mixture that i sterilized. Each bin has two pint cakes that i crumbled in bags after they were 100% plus a week. I did a 30 hour dunk. There is a layer of moist verm at the bottom. I can't think of any other info i need to add at this time. Ask me if i forgot something.

Oh, im not worried by the way, just going for maximum fruiting possiblities!

I did lightly patch right as i put them in the fruiting chamber.

I incubated for 3 days. If you have not ever grown cambodian, its so fucking aggressive, you would not believe it. My cakes looked like porcipines!

By the way first flush of cambos off 2 cakes was 166 grams wet. They were dunked another 24 hours, rolled again, and are back in the fruiting chamber.
