Roll your own....

SUSHI!

Anyone done it?  Do you use a kit, or bamboo sticks?  How do you get the rice so sticky?  hehe.

Anyways, what are some other good things to put into veggie sushibesides ginger, avacado, cucumber, and onion?

Any ideas?

A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

I've attempted to do it at this restaurant I used to work at. Its hard. Those bamboo roll thing that are tied together by string work well, but you should wrap it saran wrap to keep it from sticking and easier to clean.

As for the rice, you have to use sushi rice. There's really no other way around it. That long grain bagged shit, uncle bens, instant, converted, and anything processed just will not work.

They have that omelette thingy, Tamago. Then there's this tart preserved vegetable thats kinda crunchy. I can't remember the name though. Then there's imitation crab, that seems to be put into california rolls a lot.

I make sushi all the time..

Then again I surpervise a sushi cheff.. She kicks my ass in making sushi but I make her teatch me how whenever I get a free moment at work....

Its not soo hard.. Its all about how you press the rice to the seaweed. Then you just lay the inside thick enough so that it wraps up in one roll.

A trick my sushi cheff uses is she puts a dab of mayonase on the plastic and on her gloves so that things dont stick sooo much.. Ill bet that oil works too but she swears mayo is the best..

i've rolled my own sushi before..i use the bamboo mat for rolling.

basically if you want your rice to be the right consistency for rolling, the correct mixture of rice vinegar, rice & sugar is needed. once the rice is cooked, i wait a few mins until the rice is lukewarm and add the rice vinegar+ sugar mixture. this usually does the trick of hte rice sticking to itself whilst being rolled and not on the cling film on the bamboo mat.

I remember in grade 10 Japanese class we rolled sushi and me and my friends couldn't get it right so we just twisted the ends like a giant seaweed joint. The teacher even pointed out our "unusual" rolling method.

Pickled burdock, or daikon? Any preserved vegetable will do (cabbage, mustard green), and they are very cheap (~ $0.25- 1.50 per package) at an asian market.
