No Pinning...
    #408096 - 09/29/01 05:56 AM (22 years, 4 months ago)

i birthed my brf/verm pf cakes about a week ago, into a perlite humidified terrarium. the humidity seems fine, as the walls always have lots of condensation on them. the terrarium also gets plenty of indirect sunlight.

my cakes arent pinning though! the only thing that i would guess it could be is that they are a bit dry, would you recommend dunking them for 12hrs?

i've have some tiny tiny little spikes of mycelium that could possible be the start of pins, but i don't think so as they havent grown much over the last three days.

Dunking them can't hurt. You still may be in for another week of waiting. I can reccomend to anyone intent on growing cakes to wait for invitro pinning.

yeah, i would have waited like the pf-tek said, but i'm growing (or not as the case may be!) equadors, and it says that they are not good invitro primodators on the pf site.

EQ's are known to be stubburn....you have to give them that xtra push sometimes. You might consider casing them, or perheps the cold shock method.
Good Luck

i cold shocked the jars for 24hrs before birthing. started with 6 jars, cased 2 and have 4 in the terrarium. the casing is still colonising, hopefully this will pin more easily.

i am now dunking one of the cakes, if this helps i'll dunk the others.
