What Should I Be Reading?
    #4080673 - 04/21/05 12:09 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

I'm bout to move to Hawaii for three months. I was wondering what you kids suggest I read while on the island. Thanks for the help.

*btw ... i like philosophically, socially, politically, or historically guided works. But, whatever's clever.

Yeah and God turns out to be drunken pederast.

Heh. No problem.

If you like historical books check out "SALT" it's a history of Salt throughout all human existence. It's actually really fucking fascinating. There's a book like that on coal too.

Well, I'm talking to God (you) right now. So in that sense, yes. The philosophy in this book is incredible and inspirational, but I wouldn't take it (or anything!) as "the gospel".

This series of books basically show you why religion is rubbish and why you should look to yourself and your own experience for your truth. Here's some mp3s......

Midnight Express, Pop Goes The Weasel, anything by Stephen King, Fear and Loathing (of course)...

Agatha Christie is good too..

I could be entertained by reading anything really, I like how different authors tell stories and have drastically different writing styles.

no no no! You want to read "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand!

This book is Loonngg as hell, but it's actually not long enough! I wish that book went on forever! From the very first page I was hooked...

Rand is really good at creating new realities out of ideas, if that makes sense. The book is ostensibly about a gifted architect, Howard Roark, who battles the mediocrity of the masses to produce unique, innovative, and beautiful structures. The way that the architecture is described, it sounds like Howard has the divine knowledge of geomancy or something and is quite an enigmatic character (he was based off of Frank Lloyd Wright). The whole world created seems like some complex puzzle that slowly fits itself together. The characters grow and develop and have hugely dynamic relationships with each other.

Underneath is a bunch of Rands philosophy of Individualism and Virtuous Selfishness... or some such crap. She was basically against sacrificial altrusim and promoted uncompromising individuality. Good food for thought, but nothing I'd prescribe to.

Either way the book is something you'll always remember if you can finish it. Some people don't have the kind of patience to read a long storyline, so if you are one of those people, I'd recommend Rands' book "Anthem". Incredibly short but good! The theme goes along the same line as the Fountainhead, but it's set in a futuristic Dark Ages where universal altruism has destroyed advanced culture....

Hey I recommend The Bible Fraud and the Secret in the Bible by Tony Bushby. The former is about the real story of the life of Jesus and his twin brother Judas. It also goes into the history of deceit and corruption within the church. Amazing read. The latter is about the history of the Giza Plateau and how initiates received the keys to life and death. This book talks about how the "Secret of the Dead" was hidden within the Bible. This was a very fun and insightful book to read as well. Bushby has good credentials and had access to vital ancient manuscripts that are inaccessible to the public.

Check it out http://www.joshuabooks.com/bushby/biblefraud/internalgif/fraud.htm
