Spore Salvage from accident?
    #4079477 - 04/20/05 11:11 PM (19 years, 4 hours ago)

this other mushroom is crowding one that is about to get bigger so i am going to take it out but i want it to drop spores. It looks like its veil wants to break but it is smashed. When I take it out will it open up so i can get it to drop spores? I really don't want to pull out any mycelium with it. Its been growing for 3 days? its stem got so big it cracked open.

Wow man, those a crazy pics.  Is that a half (almost exactly!) colonized jar of grain with invitro fruiting on the top half?  Thats nuts lookin, I've never heard of that.  Personally, I'd consider it a loss and start up another batch...  If you remove that thing, you won't be able to use the grain anymore, and if you don't the shroom will rot and the rye will still be useless... Just my .02 though... GL bro :stoned:

Hrmm... Looks like its gonna be pretty hard to get a print off that. If you could remove the whole cake from the jar, then you could get the cap to grow on out.

Out of curiosity, why did you let it fruit before it was 100% colonized?

i think the bottom rotted because the other 2 i tried to case bottom that wasn't colonized smelled really bad. I don't care about using the grain i just want the 3 shrooms that are on it. even if the bottom is contaminated i could still use the spores. by putting that shroom in fridge i could preserve it short term couldn't I? I cann't remove it out of the qt because its got a small mouth instead of big. I don't want to dry it because it makes it weaker. I am thinking of just sterilizing some more bird seed and taking the mycelium cake into blender and then putting that into the bird seed. I wish it wouldn't have had such rhzmorphic growth and i wouldn't have packed them so tight. Any ideas on taking it out or leaving it in to finish off so i could get spores off it?

I'll bet it's contammed, bacteria, thats why the bottom half isnt colonized

did you wver shake it to distribute the mycelium

yea i tried to but i over cooked the substrate and am not really worried about it being contaminated as i stated before. I just want to extract the spores out of it if its grown all the way but just smashed closed? Do i need to take it out and let it open?

listen, if it is contaminated then the spores most like will be toast. next time, dont fill your jar so high, shake it asap after p cooking, Dont try to grow in a jar, Just a bunch of no's come to mind when i look at your pics.

I know how to properly do this and am looking for some positive reinforcement. Why would the spores be toast if the mushrooms are growing nicely? Please offer some thoughts on how to try to get these spores I have pounds of substrate. its not going to hurt to extract a bad spore batch.

and it will finish growing? i can print it ? i just flipped it so it could get moisture from bottom since its stem was cracking. I didn't know if it was because there wasn't enough humidity. I suppose I could still get spores off the small one it is crowding out. But I am going to wait till tomorrow to see if its veil will somehow break even though it already could be then maybe i could extract the spores out and get more than if i was conventionally printing. What would be a way I could tell its spores have internally dropped?

sorry I am so anxious. It is just crowding out this other little shroom and I am ready for some extra spores of my own to play with so I can carry on this strain. I just lost 9 spore prints in the mail and my creeper strain died. Please gimme some ideas?

ok i kind of pushed down around it towards the cap and tried to point it towards top a little but it didn't really blue but made the mycelium blue alot of. I am about to take some new pics.

DUDE your looking for an answer your not going to get. you fucked up, and you know that. sorry but your not getting spores from that thing. maybe if it tries to open up sideways you can cut off a section of the cap that is exposed. of course if it is contaminated like Tahoe said ,"spores most likely be toast". good luck next time bro.
