Pic's from a scope. (Very nuch worth a look) Post name changed by Magash
    #4079563 - 04/20/05 11:25 PM (19 years, 4 hours ago)

Besides a big pile of drugs, I was very productive. Major first timer here as I pop many myco cherries at once.

My scanning electron microscope (SEM) mycology project

I bought a B+ MICROSCOPY syringe from THE several months ago. Of course, what else would I use it for but MICROSCOPY. To avoid the nitty gritty and cut to the case, this morning I was able to get spore prints on metal SEM stubs. I went about various 4/20 festivities until about noon before dropping off my new samples at the lab to get coated with platinum and carbon films. The technician finished them in the afternoon so after dinner and some more drugs I was able to collect my images on this special day. How I managed to do it all I will never know, but my brain thanks me for the good time.

I've been a passive observer and researcher of the forums for a couple months, but this is my first post. Hope you enjoy and I'm open to questions.

Hi,

I also have hundreds of SEM images of Psilocybe and Copelandia mushroms and even Stropharias and Boletus SEM photo images.

I am curious as to what species of fungi you are photographing the spores of?

HEre is a picture of the SEM I use at Chu8lalongkorn University for photographing mushrooms.

Here is a picture of the newly discovered in Cambodia, Psilocybe antioquensis.

and an SEM of Psilocybe semilanceata from Oregon.

MJ, mine are P. cube B+ spores

I worked on the JEOL-6500 Field Emission SEM. More than a slight improvement over the one in your picture.

Not much difference between the various strains. My next project will be some environmental or cryo-SEM on the gills and mycellium.

HI, Great imagery. My next paper is on the comparative chemical analysis,DNA, Cultivation and SEM's of P. semilanceata, P. mexicana, P. samuiensis and P. antioquensis, which all shared macroscopic similarities but are also related microscopically.

It also includes an update on the occurrence and use of entheogenic mushrooms in some regions of SE Asia .

Will keep you posted on that one at the end of the year. Have several papers in press at the moment.

Have a shroomy day,

mj

I have access to a top-notch Characterization Facility, but it's hard to find time to do my own independent research. Where could I find some of these publications?
