You need to give us a bit more information.

What color are the gills? I can't tell from the photos. They might be pinkish or grayish.

Is there a cuplike structure around the base of the stem? Was there one when they were found?

My first guess would be one of the various Pluteus species.

Happy mushrooming!

They match the description, but, I don't like those gills, don't see a veil remnant either. Even tho it looks kinda blue at the base, I'd toss 'em, and just be glad for the adventure :smirk:
But wait to hear from a pro.
Nice pics too, thanks for sharing

Happy Hunting

If they were growing from a tree (even a rotten one) I would be especially wary of them. Those gills also dont look quite dark enough. I agree, I would toss 'em too.

Toxicman had the correct ID, Pluteus sp.

I assume when LouiseLouise and Crestfallen say the gills are not dark enough that they were comparing your mushrooms to P. cubensis.

The wooden habitat also rules out P. cubensis which is a dung dweller.

No harm can come from questioning. "Best" case scenerio: You prove it right without relying on the fact that it is widely accepted. Argument strengthened. "Worst" case scenerio: You realize you might have been wrong. The new answer might or might not be what you want to hear, but it beats defending yourself with bullshit.

That looks alot like a dried P. Cubensis. Are you sure the rotted wasn't on top of a old pile of dung? I have found them growing what appeared to be straight out of the ground.
Example:

In this particular patch , they seemed to be over abundant. I pulled the grass apart & there was no apparent dung , thought I presume there had been at one time. Which may be the case with your specimens. They look indenticle to dried ones that I have picked. -BUT-!!!! Never once have I ever pulled a P. Cubensis directly from wood.
