video editing help
    #4075564 - 04/20/05 03:32 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

I recently borrowed a sony camera from my school, and I have a USB port, and need to upload the video to my computer, but they say I need their stupid software or a software that is capable of capturing USB stream. Does anyone know of any free video editing programs that would be able to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dunno, but the USB stream from those Sony digital cameras is low quality garbage. If you want it to look even remotely watchable on a TV screen, you'll need an IEEE 1394 card so you can use the DV connection.

Find out what model it is and look around on the Sony website, they should have a program available for capture. Note that it will take many hours to capture through USB, I wouldn't waste my time. Good luck.

Unless it's USB 2....it may be nice and fast then.

Phluck's got the right idea: you want to use Firewire, not USB. Firewire was more or less built for video capture.

I use a program called VirtualDub for a lot of codec work, and I know it has a capture function in it. It's free.
