VAN WERT, Ohio -- Police in Van Wert did not have to wait for a 911 call to catch two would-be drug makers in the act -- the pair had set up shop in a police dispatcher's garage.
Authorities said the pair was arrested Monday on drug charges after Van Wert dispatcher Rick Spoor found them making methamphetamine in his little-used garage.
Police say 21-year-old Corby J. Mercer fled the scene in his car, leading police on a chase down a dead-end road and through several fields. He was captured after police caught him crawling through a ditch. Officers said the other suspect, Jeremy Paige, did not try to escape.
Each was charged with two counts of manufacturing drugs. Mercer was also charged with fleeing, failure to control and failure to stop after an accident.
