first try.. need some criticism
    #4074605 - 04/19/05 11:01 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

On Sunday afternoon (4/17) inoculated 12 pf-tek jars using GT syringes. The jars had four holes in each lid and the lid was then covered with foil. This hopefull will allow for some air exchange. I then placed all 12 jars with the foil over each lid into a rubbermaid container i had previously sterilized with Lysol disinfectant spray + wipes. According to the thermometer the jars are ~ 72F. They sit in a bedroom that recieves little human traffic and get some ambient light that filters through the blinds into the room during the day.

Should i raise the temperature some?
>I've been following the PFtek for simple minds and it says the incubation temp should be between 70-80F.

Should i crack the lid on the rubbermaid container to allow gas exchange? I open it up for a minute or so once per day.

As of 11pm 4/19 i see no signs of mycellium growth.

Don't mind me...just another noob here.
If I can remember straight, I beleive that jars are supposed to incubate in the dark, since light incourages pinning.

In my TiT I leave the lid off and just put a big blanket over the jars. It seems to keep the temperature pretty consistent, and it seemed that as soon as I took the lid off the top tub they took off. but that could have been totally coincidental.

^ Ditto,    Ive had some wierd temp flux though with my TiT, im cheap about bought a 10$ sub heater that I could never get the right temp for! but its all good now, incubation is ~82-85 degrees, way in the beginning though it would flux from 70-92 and Id get really unhappy >_<

opening the lid at this stage isnt going to benifit or hurt anything, i would suggest getting rid of the sunlight on the jars even if it is indirect, not to mention if your trying to stay away from fluctuating temps sunlight can be a pain sometimes when its shining on your incubater. air exchange will be a little more important later, like if your jars start stalling at 80-90% colonization and fruiting, there should be plenty of good air in the jars to get things moving in the right direction for now.

dude, they been in there two days.

don't even look at them until six days.

don't touch them, don't move them around, and don't open their box.

don't try to heat them, leave them at 72

have patience, and leave them be....

I would try to get them to 80deg. ambient. I think you'll notice a difference in colonization times.
