saving substrate

I was curious, I have read that you can store the sterile substrate indefinitley. I was wondering what is the best way to do this when they get out of the pressure cooker/steamer. Should they go in the fridge? In a clean room? Stay in the cooker? Just want to get this right, this is my first time and I am waiting to get spores in the mail. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Cool, dark place is best if you've got it. Cellar, refrigerator, etc. Cover jars with saran wrap to keep dust out. That's it.

Ok, then just leave the foil on and you're good to go.

I also have another question...When steam sterilizing the jars of substrate, the towel that was placed under the jars became slightly burned. this made brown marks on the bottom of the jars. It wont wipe off. My question is, are these jars sterile? Or should the process be repeated with maybe less heat, more water, thicker towel?

I'm gonna say they are still sterile. i wouldn't worry about the outside of the jar just the contents inside. How come you had a towel in there???no rack???
