Putting holes in glass.
    #4073548 - 04/19/05 07:04 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Whats the best way to put a hole through glass?

I want to make a bong out of a bottle i have, and was wondering if it would be doable with a dremel tool and diamond tipped bits

like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...bayphotohosting
would i be able to punch a small hole through, then work my way around it to make it bigger?

this is the only idea that i've came up with, and i dont want to buy them without knowing if it will work or not.

would this type work better?

Diamond tipped bits, very high RPM.

Run it under cold water to lubricate / cool. Careful not to get the
dremel wet.

edit: High-speed glass dust sucks. Wear eye protection.

I used a metal bit and it worked once. Killer drill though. You can do it manually and slowly using something like a frostner bit (I fucked this spelling somehow too.)

yea man those dremels will work fine. wear gloves, cool it with water or something if at all possible, and also wear glasses. run it as fast as you can and take your time, should be no probs.

Wrap the area of the bottle where you want the hole with a couple of layers of black electrical tape. Then use an electric drill with the desired bit size. Works like a charm.

Man invest in the diamond bits and start making some sick bongs.
Your friends will love em!

Use a regular electric drill to make regulation size holes and buy extra
hardware from a headshop. You'll clean up!

EyyyyyyyMon! ain't seen you around here before! How ya been?
For the bong construction i've used a diamond tipped drill bit about 3/4 inches wide with an electric drill. just apply steady, strong, and most of all, central pressure as you push. It goes slowly but don't try to work it around to make the hole bigger, ye've gotta use a different drill bit. It'll just chip the glass or break it otherwise. they should make bits big enough for your purposes.
I've never used a dremel for it before, but yall people seem to know what they're talkin bout.
They also sell the bits at hardware stores, I got mine at Lowes.
