Room temps work fine for incubation.

closetgrower, all mycelium runs generate heat. The question of if it's enough without any external heat source has a ton to do with how well insulated your tray is, how cold is the room, how cold is the surface the tray is on, etc. It is not easily answerable. Go to Walmart, spend $15 and get yourself an outdoor electronic thermometer with the external probe. Stick that in the center of your tray or bed next time. You are shooting for around 86F (keep it under 92F or so) during the spawn run (if you are using spawn) AND during the casing incubation. How you get those temperatures is up to you. It might require heating the room or just covering the whole thing with a blanket. Like I said there are too many variables to give you a simple answer because it's not simple.

I disagree with room temperature for incubation of the casing. One generally doesn't need external heat in a bulk run during the spawn run, but if you do not use external heat during the casing run, often the mycelium will fail to run the casing well. That's why people started using coir I guess; they just couldn't figure out how to run the casing well with peat moss because they don't keep the bed warm.
