One more question regarding boiling/pressure cooking?

Ive read that pressure cooking is only necessary for grain based growth media. I believe that brown rice falls outside of this parameter, but just want to be 100% sure.

basically, can i just boil a BR media?

Thanks for any help. sorry if these queastions shouldnt be asked, i havent gotten a definitive answer from reading around.

Whole grain brown rice can be boiled, as can BRF jars. While whole grains are in the grain category, they are the only one you'll get away with boiling.

Boil for 90 mins in a pot w/ lid.

make sure your jars don't touch the bottom... and make sure when/if you refill the water in that steaming pot.. you don't accidentally drip any on the jars.. they'll crack!!

I just got a big ole pot, then put one small plate upside down on the bottom of it.. then put a regular plate right side up.. then jars on top. I've also had success with simply boiling the water.... and setting a metal strainer on the top of the pot.. it only does like 4-6 .. 1/2 pts at once but it certianly does work well when you want to add more water!!

Use boiling water, then you don't have to worry.

You can get away with boiling 1 pint jars of whole grain brown rice for 90 minutes with a tight fitting lid.  I'm not recommending you do it over PC'ing, just stating that it can be done w/ success. (speaking from personal experience here).

But as with anything, if you guys are going to cut corners, expect the worst. :rolleyes:

Thanks for the quick reply. That's kinda what I thought, works but not recommended. I think I'll just wait till I get my pc.
