Care to add any?

I'm a big fan of their music, but I have to disagree with you on their complexity. It's not hard. Tool isn't really hard either with the exception of Danny Carey.

Dunno I had lots of trouble with them, still not as much as with tool... trying to make it perfectly. But that's just my opinion

And oh yeah, dream teather definetly hard to cover.  forgot about them.

Covering Maynard would be damn hard....

I think covering Meshuggah would be real hard too..

The Clean vibe

--------------------
A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

Well don't get me wrong they're more difficult than others but please keep in mind those were only my opinions as well. Hope I didn't step on any toes.

I didn't realize we were talking about vocals as well... Because yes it would be very hard to copy a voice as good as Maynard.

Meshuggah would give me some trouble that's for sure.

After listening to both Mars Volta albums with headphones on repeatedly, I have come to the conclusion that they could never be replicated with justice. It's hard for me to understand how they could play such madness live.

I also think some of Les Claypool's bass might be hard to duplicate properly.

Meshuggah would be very fucking hard. Their music is quite complex, but it just takes some studying. When I first heard "Chaosphere" I thought the drums were damn near impossible to play, but after who knows many listens, I can play just about the whole thing. Haake is my idol, I absolutely love his style.
Getting someone that could play Thordendal's solo's (Like in Future Breed Machine for example)is another story though. :smirk:

Some other bands I think would be hard to cover
Cryptopsy
Children Of Bodom
Umphrey's McGee(those guys can fucking play)
Death
Dream Theater

I would have to disagree. I think all these bands can be easily covered by semi-skilled musicians. Of course, its difficult to replicate exact style but that is why bands like tool shine.

I have to agree with the above poster that Death would be very difficult, if not impossible to cover, especially if you required the guitarist to play and sing at the same time like Chuck. That guy had some weird abilities and i wouldnt be suprised if it somehow resulted in his brain tumor.

Heavily covered bands that are still some of the best ever: The Cure, Neil Young, The Beatles, Zeppelin, David Bowie, and so on...

In keeping with the thread theme: King Crimson...um...hmmmm...ok nevermind, kind of bad thread idea.

I was going to say the same thing earlier. The hardest part about covering a band is not getting all the music down, its producing that same energy they have.
And yes, Chuck was quite amazing. Some of his solo's were just so insane, like the one on "Flesh and the Power It Holds". Such a shame he is not with us anymore.
