I was curious to know if longer posts are worth the time to write over all. If you could take a moment to answer this poll, I would really appreciate the feed back and so may many others.

  I love all your posts, Jiggy, but must confess there have been one or two long ones of yours I have skipped.

Still, the love was there.  Now, as to the long winded dudes, well sometimes yea sometimes no and not really dependent on the poster as much as subject matter or interesting exchange to have me read the long ones.

As I have the attention span of a gnat, I find this poll too long to take.

Swami, you set yourself up with the gnat analogy. :smirk: I won't touch it though. I know you read long and short and don't mind the long as long as the spelling and grammar is well and it's "cohesive".

Feedback is good because it makes us better writers that reach more to have discussions of special interests with and get feedback and commentary from which is mostly why we bother posting in the first place.

Love back at ya Lunar. I'm a reader and do read long ones and it comes down to the subject matter not the poster for me.

This is good place to bring up being careful of how you head a post if you want those who are interested in the same to engage in discussion with or get feedback and commentary from.

Ever notice how when a post title doesn't match the subject, people are more likely to bitch and complain in it? I thinks it's because they just weren't interested in the subject matter and by the title thought they were going to get something else. If people feel ripped off taking the time to read on how to prepare peas 1,000 ways when they thought they were getting 1,000 sexual positions to try, they are more likely to reply with flack at their disappointment as they may care less about peas.

Post Headers are definitely important for the quality of discussion that will follow I notice.

I usually skip long ones, unless the topic interests me, and then I will hurt my brain to read it. Doesn't matter who wrote it.

But regardless of the length, if the paragraphs are not short, if they are just sentence after sentence without any break, I will definitely skip it.

I just KNEW you would mention the short paragraphs, Frog!  And I agree completely. It's pretty intimidating to start off reading a post with a large blob staring back at you, daring you to take it on. I will read SOME long posts, but I'll be damned if I'm going to run it through a text editor before I read it. That's not my job.

Bottom line: If you want others to read your posts, try to keep it as brief as possible and easy on the eyes. Because unless you are typing a live report of the first verifiable UFO landing in your backyard or Jesus has finally returned and chosen your computer room to do it in, many people won't bother.

It depends...

If the post is an essay or article and I'm interested in the subject I'll probably read it no matter how long it is. But if it's just someone trying to make a point about something I won't read it. If they can't make a point in a short, concise manner, and instead use a bunch of empty words and fluff, in my experience it's not worth reading. Generally I won't read posts longer than 10-15 lines.

I agree with the short paragraphs! Break up your post into main ideas, didn't you learn how to write essays in high school?

I definitely like short posts because they can be concise and simple. But sometimes you need to FULLY explain yourself, and that's okay.

I find that it doesn't matter so much how long the post is, as long as it is an ORGANIZED stream of thought and not just a big blob, or a multiparagraphed rant. When I see a long ass post about "what is elightenment?..." or something similarly vauge I just skip it. I know that all I'm missing is a bunch of gettin-us-nowhere arguing anyways.
