which of these plants can go outside?
    #4068734 - 04/18/05 01:19 PM (19 years, 2 days ago)

I just got done repotting all of my new plants, except for my San Pedro and i'm running out of space for plants next to my large window. I live in Colorado and the temperatures are getting high, in the higher 70's today. I have:

Patchouli
Echinacea
Nicotiana tobaccum
Nicotiana rustica
Ashwaganda
Kava Kava

Currently, i'm taking them out every day in the afternoon in the shade for a few hours.

I've got two patchouli plants in pots outside right now and they're doing fine, but we're in slightly different zones. Still I would assume they'd be just fine.

Another questions: What fertilizer(s) do you guys recommend i buy? Anything else special? I feel like a n00b, but i've grown quite a few plants in the past, with a basic setup. My plant knowledge is widening as i'm gaining experience, and once i get my greenhouse, i should be knowledgeable enough for now. Thanks

right now im using ELEANOR'S VF-11, its 0.15% nitrogen, 0.85% phosphoric acid, and 0.55% soluble potash. It works as the bottle says "like magic". I use this on all my plants including my sticky greens. It also works great for just establishing a rooted cutting! I've never seen a plant regain so much greenery from any other fertilizer. It's an organic fertilizer and definately non-toxic. I can tell you from my own personal experience, that this is the best fertilizer ive ever come across. And a 1/2 gallon jug of it is only like 8$.

i think its probably better to know how cold it gets more so than how warm it gets.

no frost i woudl say all. im not sure of kava or patch though.

your withania can go outside for sure. i got a couple seedlings out here, doing fine. jsut dont let a freeze get them (killed my first batch).

Thanks for the reply, i'm probably keeping my kava kava inside. Couple more questions. Should i repot my 17" San Pedro into a large clay pot? Right now it's still in the plastic pot that came with it. I'll be nervous transplanting it. How do i clean dirt off my tobacco plants effectively?

dont need to be nervous.  just pull pot off, put in new pot dump dirt in.  the only problem i ever had was with alger ones and breaking the cactus.  which is no huge problem cause it will regrow, but then you got a smaller cacti :frown:

dirt off tobacco?  not sure what you mean, teh roots?  not needed.

I mean i got potting soil on top of the tobacco leaves and it's sprinled around a few of my plants. No big deal, i just don't think the plants like having it there. I'll spray and lightly wipe the leaves.
