day & night cycles
    #4069844 - 04/18/05 08:46 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

does our beloved speciman experience day and night cycles, for example like a cannibus plant with 12/12 cycles? is the 12 hours night cycle important to them too?

in other words, if i were to do 6 hours on light and then 6 hours off light, will it induce it to fruit faster? similar to maybe a cold dunk?

i ask this because my myc is popping through my casing layer like nothing, even thought the casing layer was 2", it grew through that shit withing 2 days of incubating. i fruited in time but its in the fruiting chamber now and not pinning. its only been 2 days since i fruited them. is overlay an issue now? the myc seems nice and stranded and loss, not packed in at all. can i patch?

im am guessing not because it is not like outside nature 12/12 on/off. But I have not read anything that says 6 on/off would be faster or not. I would patch but hard to tell without a pic so im guessing

Light is very unimportant except a tiny bit of blue (like a second) per day. I like to use lots of light so I can look at the tray every few hours. I am weird like that.

I have read several studies showing the sam result you mentioned. I would why so many people on this board make some amount of effort to maintain a 12/12 or similar day/night cycle. I understand that are trying to simulate the natural day/night cycle as closely as possible. But if studies are correct, and they only need a small specific amount of light why go through the trouble?

Interesting find, Letto. I will try a slightly reduced light cycle my next grow and see if I experience something like that. One thing is certain is that light, even that from a flourescent fixture, heats the surface of the mushrooms a tiny bit. I wonder if that is the reason for the difference in growth.
