summer = bad news
    #4069161 - 04/18/05 05:44 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

well finally got my martha up and going im giving it a test run with 4 cakes. Right now temps inside are at 79. I can see summer being a problem now because I have no air condition. Is there anything I can do? Im guessing not so am I going to have to quit this hobby for the summer?

You could see if a frozen bottle of water or two in there would drop the ambient temp a little maybe. I've seen it somewhere as a method for terrariums.

Maybe with light and lowered CO2, they may fruit anyway, especially when they run out of substrate to control.. I don't know anything really about invitro growing, but don't they pin in the jars ie. in the incubator? I mean, I thought in the original PF tek it actually says to start fruiting when you see pins in the jars..

How hot does your house get in the summer?

it was built in the late 40's. everything is made of metal everything. We have an air conditioner but it all the way across the house and this thing is drafty as hell.

ya it should be fine, 80 is good. just try and not have it go in the high 80's, then you will have a problem.

I have the same problem. The mushrooms will grow but the contams are hell. I'm lucky if I can get one good flush before the fucking green sets in. I've decided to suspend growing from May through September.

This is what i do for my portabellas when they are up since it will be summer. Spend 90 dollars on http://www.morebeer.com/product.html?product_id=16666

get a free freezer from Http://Freecycle.Org

hook it all up and you have your own cooler that will keep your temps at a constant 7_ degrees with about a 3 deggree shift.\

you can find them cheraper than 80 dollars. I suggest ebay. I got one for 50 somethin i think

any questions pm me or somehtin

they get contams because the windows are not open and not good air circulation in the house too.  I have often repeated myself saying that contams follow me around and I believe its because I got 2 dogs and it was winter now i can open the windows and i have a hepa filter running 24/7next to my setup no problems so far. :thumbup:
