what temp.for storage?

I plan on creating a small surplus of colonized rye jars so that I will always have some ready to go in my grow chamber. I have heard that colonized jars will store in the fridge but I dont have room. Would a cooler with 5 or 6 reusable ice packs work? Does anybody know how cold they have to be to send the mycelium into hibernation? Also how long can they remain growable in this state? If this works why do I always read about people waiting for complete cycles Thanks for your help!

40 degrees Fahrenheit. Your cooler idea should work well.
