Microwaves are evil! (from personal standpoint) I have heard of people sterilizing water, accessories and other crap. I have never heard of anyone trying to sterilize jars in a MW. I don't think you would get far, then again I'm a n00b!

There was someone on here a month or so ago talking about how he did all his jars in the microwave and was having great success. Contrary to what most everyone else was saying. He said it was great and would post pic's to prove it. Funny, don't remember seeing those pic's yet. Maybe it doesn't work that great. I wouldn't recommend using a microwave to sterilize substrate. With grains you need a PC. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. Hippie Chick

Already been done
This comes up enough to make you think that people would give it up, but somehow it keeps surfacing....
Does it work - Sometimes
Is it better than pc/boiling - No
Simply put, it doesn't give great results and that's why it isn't widely used....
Look up posts from kultivator (or was it kultivater)...He posted about it and never came back w/ pics of his success

It takes 250F & saturated steam under pressure, plus exposure for a certain amount of time - depending on the size/bulk of what you intend to sterilize.
Microwaves will produce 250F - no problem. Steam under pressure is the hitch with one.
To build steam pressure requires a sealed container of considerable strength (usualy metal & metal doesnt work in a microwave).
Place a sealed container with moisture in it in a microwave, hit the nuke button & after heating a short time the container will either blow off the lid, or EXPLODE.
Does that SOUND LIKE FUN TO YOU?

fractional sterilisation is possible in the microwave. you must weigh bags before and after to see when you have the correct moisture content

Microwave is fine here for PF tek, and a shitload quicker. But Like I said before somewhere, its a lot easier to get the right water content doing it the old fashioned way, So I dont bother with it anymore, Its only a couple of hours to knock up jars in a PC, maybe half a day if you have to do lots of runs with a small one, still not a great deal in the grand scheme of things.
As for grains... ehhh no, It works with PF because the substrate is pretty much uniformly wet throughout.. its the water that is heated mostly I think. And popcorn in the microwave?! Its tasty for sure. But not ideal for growing stuff on afterwards I would imagine.
