Observing myself falling asleep
    #4067317 - 04/18/05 02:34 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Last week I had the oppurtunity to observe myself falling asleep as it happened. This occurred twice, and both nights I had smoked some pot beforehand. It was a very strange experience, one that I hadn't ever had before. Here's what happened: at some point as I was drifting to sleep, I awoke a little bit, with a feeling of my consciousness shrinking to a single point in my head, right in the vicinity of where the "third eye" supposedly is. I observed this process, both ways, in what I would describe as inward and outward. First, I felt my consciousness shrinking to a single point in my third eye, with a strange "rushing" feeling, not in my body at all but in my consciousness, as if it was going through some sort of portal. It was a lot like the effect of water in a funnel; the funnel being my body, the water my awareness, and the spout of the funnel my third eye. Then the moment I caught myself and realized what was happening, this single-point of awareness expanded back outward from my third eye to engulf my head and body again -- which is how it felt to wake back up.

The pot, I believe, played a role in allowing me to observe this phenomenon. Has anyone else had any experience like this?

Thats a technique for astral travel. One time I tried to do the techniques while stoned, I was feeling the sensations of going to sleep but in a very extreme manner, which kind of scared me so I woke up.
Didnt you feel any sensations?

I know what you're talking about, the vibrations felt before astral projection. But no, I didn't feel anything like that, because I had no awareness in my body at the moment. This felt different from the astral projection onset.

Thanks for relating that, moog.

I've read that experienced swamis can maintain continuity of self-awareness all the way into sleep.
